This week, teacher asked us to listen the BBC's 6 Minute English podcast about "Transport of the future". Actually, I'm very interested about this topic, so  I think this episode is very easy that there don't have anything difficult for me to understand.

In this podcast, I learned 5 new words at below:

Automation (n.) 自動化
the use of machines and computers that can operate without needing human control
Ex: We're trying to increase automation in the home while keeping the house an enjoyable place to live.

Prototype (n.) 原型
the first example of something, such as a machine or other industrial product, from which all later forms are developed
Ex: Pilots have begun testing a prototype of the new aircraft.
far-fetched (adj.) 難以置信的
very unlikely to be true, and difficult to believe
Ex: The idea of travelling to other solar systems may sound far-fetched but scientists now see it as a real possibility.

 Maglev (n.) 磁懸浮
short for magnetic levitation: an advanced type of transport system in which a train travels on a magnetic track, often at very high speeds
Ex: The prototype maglev has notched top speeds of 320 mph.

 Vaccum (n.) 真空
a space from which most or all of the matter has been removed, or where there is little or no matter
Ex: Operating in the near vacuum of space, ion engines shoot out the propellant gas much faster than the jet of a chemical rocket.

#5 Can I trust a smart speaker

(A) Do you have a smart speaker at home? Yes, there have one in my home. As the picture below. It's Amazon's Echo, a smart speaker  developed by   Amazon . When my father bought this device via my family member lived in the USA, he wished his kids could use it to improved their English. But I don't think this device would be useful in my home. Because lots of Amazon's services aren't available in Taiwan. Until now, we only use Echo to listen the ICRT online radio. (B) What is a smart speaker? You can r efered to the following picture, it seems no different with the regular one. But smart speaker has an important featured: With  virtual assistant. (C) How does a smart speaker work?  Just like Siri, Google assistant in your smartphone. This invisible agent in the speaker can help what you want for help. You can ask: reminds me for shopping, set the alarm, tell me the personal schedule today, even help you feel happy with the joke or the song. Ther

Audio: View on Vocaroo >> Transcript: When there are electronics like mobile phone or computer, I will procrastinate very often. Because these electronics have “superpower” that we want to check it out. So, when I studied for school’s subject or reading books, I will check the mobile phone for something never heard on the book. After find out the introduction on Wikipedia, I will want to check out other things like someone, something, some where’s introduction on Wikipedia. And I lost my studied time. I think most of the people like my age’s will have it, too. To prevent procrastinating, I have the following ideas: Put the electronics at somewhere we can’t see it when studied. Or after finding on mobile phones, told to yourself: “Put your attention back to your book right now!” and you will realize the book is important than mobile phone, and put the phone away.
